Playing football at youth level in Manchester is where I learnt the beautiful game, and there has never been a more exciting time to get into the sport as there is in grassroots football on the streets of Manchester.
Across Manchester there are hundreds of teams, clubs and associations that can help get your child into both youth & mini football leagues. So rather than throwing your child in at the deep end, there are many small-sided formats such as 4v4 and 5v5 within youth leagues, as Youth Development Review takes shape, the future of the game is designed to increase the number of touches of the ball a player has, develop confidence and skill in 1v1 situations, while at the same time assisting with the long-term development of young footballers in the U.K.
There are many facilities used by all of our youth leagues that enable players and parents to enjoy a fun, high quality, safe environment where they can play, learn and watch grassroots football.
The work of several league committee members goes on behind the scenes and is a vital part of delivering grass-roots football and are always looking for volunteers to help run and improve the opportunities so that our future football stars can have the best possible opportunities to develop.
The FA is committed to supporting our Youth Football Manchester scheme with the following:
Increase participation throughout the game
Increase the number of FA Charter Standard clubs
Increase the number of FA Charter Standard leagues
Increase the number of active referees
Raise the standards of welfare throughout football
Promote and support the FA’s RESPECT initiative
Promote the FA’s coach education and volunteer programme
Create better players through the FA Tesco Skills Programme
Develop and support the governance of the Game
Support leagues with promotion and marketing of the services they provide.
