English clubs fail in Europe

Arsene Wenger says it is a “massive wake-up call” that no English clubs have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Bayern Munich‘s win over the Gunners on the away goals rule on Wednesday means England will not have a team in the last eight for the first time since the 1995-96 season.

“It’s a massive disappointment for English football,” said Wenger.

“We accept the rest of European football has caught us.”

English clubs in the Champions League quarter-finals:

  • 2006/07: 3
  • 2007/08: 4
  • 2008/09: 4
  • 2009/10: 2
  • 2010/11: 3
  • 2011/12: 1
  • 2012/13: 0

Allthough Arsene has a point, but what he is failing to realise is that this is only the 2nd year in the last 8 that an English club didn’t make it to the final of the competition.  Perhaps English football isn’t in as much trouble as we thought, and lets not forget that bayern were last years runners up, and have been in 2 of the last 3 seasons.

lets here your thoughts……………..
